Wood-fired grills have be gaining popularity in recent years and Traeger is definitely the most well-known brand on the market. Founded in 1985 by Joe Traeger and joining the retail market in 1988, Traeger’s wood pellet grills are tried and true.
Easy to use
Traeger’s motto is ‘set it and forget it’, they’re that easy to use. Whilst they burn 100% hardwood pellets as their fuel, Traeger grills run off of electricity, meaning they do all the hard work of maintaining your temperature for you. Traeger’s WiFIRE technology allows you to monitor and control your grill from anywhere with the Traeger app.
To light your Traeger grill, simply fill the hopper with wood pellets, turn it on and set your temperature. The grill will feed through the correct amount of pellets needed to reach and maintain the temperature set. Traeger’s new D2 controller ensures that the grill is at a temperature within 5˚C of that set at the controller.
Consistent results
Traeger’s temperature accuracy ensures you consistent results every time. Because you can be sure that the temperature of your barbecue is going to stay the same from cook to cook, and you Traeger grill will deliver the same amazing wood-fired flavour every time, you’re free to experiment more with your cooks and work on taking your cooking to the next level.
All Traeger grills come with at least one wired meat probe included, which connects to your grill’s display, and will transmit to the Traeger app if you have a Traeger with WiFIRE. This will allow you to monitor the internal temperature of your cooks and achieve amazing results time after time.
With WiFIRE grills, you can not only monitor your temperature but also control your cooking from the Traeger app. Traeger offer recipes for all kinds of cooking methods, meal types, and dietary requirements. When connected to a WiFIRE grill, you can run recipes from the app to your grill with your Traeger making temperature adjustments automatically in accordance with the recipe. You can also create your own recipes within the Traeger app for your grill to follow via its WiFIRE connection.
Delicious wood-fired flavour
Traeger grills burn hardwood pellets to achieve a delicious wood-fired flavour. Traeger’s wood pellets are 100% hardwood sawdust, compressed with heat and pressure to form pellets. No fillers or binders go into Traeger’s pellets. One bag of Traeger wood pellets will last you anywhere from six to twenty hours ofcooking time.
Traeger grills produce a delicious wood-fired outcome without having to contend with a charcoal or wood fire. At lower temperatures, under 110˚, your Traeger will infuse your food with the smoky flavour of your chosen pellets. Fruit woods, like apple, tend to produce a more subtle flavour, whilst flavours like hickory and mesquite are stronger.
Some Traeger grills, such as the Ironwood and Timberline ranges, also come equipped with SuperSmoke mode. This can be used between 75 and 105 degrees and will provide a boost of smoke for that extra layer of flavour.
At higher temperatures, the smoked flavour will be less noticeable. However, your Traeger will still provide the myriad of other benefits of cooking over charcoal or wood. The difference between wood or charcoal and gas is most noticeable in low and slow cooking and thanks to Traeger’s wood pellets, your Traeger will produce incredibly succulent and tender food.
When cooking on your Traeger grill, you should always use Traeger’s pellets, for the best results and to help avoid auger jams.
Cheap to run
We calculated that a Traeger grill costs on average £1.39 per hour to run, that’s including the wood pellets and electricity. This makes the average running cost of a Traeger per hour under half of that of a four burner gas barbecue.
Traeger grills use relatively little electricity, as they burn wood pellets. Your Traeger needs electricity only to power the display, ignite the fire, and power the auger and fan. This means that the bulk of your operating costs come from your wood pellets, which work out cheaper than charcoal at £2.00 per kilo as opposed to the average cost of charcoal coming out to £2.22 per kilo.
It’s apparent that Traeger grills are the real deal. They are cheap to run and easy to use while still producing consistent and delicious results cooked over a 100% wood fire. Join the Traegerhood today and see for yourself!
