How long does a bag of Traeger pellets last?

Traeger’s wood-fired electric grills burn hardwood pellets for that delicious wood-fired flavour that they’re known for. Traeger’s wood pellets are 100% hardwood sawdust, compressed with heat and pressure to form pellets. No fillers or binders go into Traeger’s pellets.
When cooking on your Traeger grill, you should always use Traeger’s pellets, for the best results and to help avoid auger jams.
How to choose the right pellet flavour
Traeger offer a range of pellet flavours, from apple to mesquite to their signature blend. Whilst Traeger’s pellets are good with all kinds of foods, some are better suited to certain cooks than others.
Fruit woods, such as apple and cherry, are generally going to be best for pork, poultry, baking, and other subtle flavours that could easily be overpowered. Cherry pellets also pair well with beef.
Flavours like hickory and mesquite are bolder and more noticeable. Hickory will naturally enhance the flavour of beef, chicken, pork and vegetables, and mesquite will pair well with chicken and fish as well as beef.
Traeger’s pecan pellets bring an intricate sweet and slightly spicy flavour that is well suited to beef, chicken, pork, vegetables, and baked goods. Similarly, Traeger’s signature blend pellets are the ultimate all-rounder, combining hickory, maple, and cherry hardwoods to bring a sweet and full-bodies flavour to your cooks.
How long does a bag of pellets last?
Traeger’s standard pellets come in 9kg bags. Depending on the temperature that you are cooking at, one bag of pellets will last you anywhere between six and twenty hours of cooking time.
This will vary from grill to grill, as larger grills have more space to heat but Traeger’s Ironwood and Timberline ranges also include double walled insulation and a gasket on the lid to help the grill maintain its temperature without wasting fuel. Traeger’s new Ironwood and Timberline ranges also have a backsplash in the cooking area, which helps keep heat inside the cookbox.
When cooking low and slow on a Traeger, your pellets will last you a longer period of time. When you increase the temperature to sear at high heats, you will burn through pellets faster.
The Ironwood and Timberline models come with a pellet sensor built into the barbecue. This will alert you both at the grill and through the Traeger app when your pellets are running low. If you have a Pro Series grill, you can purchase the pellet sensor separately, and it will connect to your grill’s WiFIRE and alert you in the same way.
Most Traeger grills have a hopper clear out, allowing you to quickly empty the hopper and switch between pellet flavours. Traeger’s StayDry pellet bin will store 10kg of pellets, and is airtight with a locking closure, keeping pellets dry and fresh between uses.
