Rub Review: Blues Hog
12th Oct 2018
Blues Hog
The Blues Hog brand began its life in the hills of Tennessee, it was created be pitmaster Bill Arnold, and it is one of the most award-winning sauces on the commercial market. Amongst its many accolades, you will find awards such as, "Best Baste on the Planet” and “People’s Choice” at the prestigious American Royal.
In their line of award-winning sauces, you find four different varieties; Original, Smokey Mountain, Tennessee Red, and Honey Mustard, as well as the classic Blues Hog Rub. Each of these sauces brings something unique to the table, and there’s something for everyone, whether you prefer sticky, sweet, smokey, or hot.
The Original
The Original sauce from Blues Hog is made from all natural ingredients and is everything you could wish for in a barbecue sauce; it's sticky, it’s sweet, it’s got just the right amount of spice, and it beautifully coats the meat of your choosing.
This unique, and award-winning recipe means it is the top choice for barbecue chefs worldwide.
With a sauce like this you don’t want to limit yourself to just basting things in it, try heating it up to use it as a dipping sauce for your sausages, use it for that extra something in your barbecued burger, or as a drizzle on fries, when a product is this good the possibilities are endless.
Smokey Mountain
The Smokey Mountain Sauce has the same lovely sticky consistency as The Original, but with the extra kick and depth of natural hickory flavour.
It’s brilliant for basting chicken, ribs, pork, and beef where you want that smokiness to shine through.
For an extra something, try it in your baked beans, you’ll thank us later.
Tennessee Red
Tennessee Red may be thinner then the other sauces you find in the Blues Hog range, but that doesn’t stop it from packing a punch.
This vinegar and pepper based sauce is common in southern barbecues, but is also the perfect addition to sandwiches and ‘dirty rice’.
Whatever you use it for, it's sure to give your food a unique boost full of flavour with a ‘zesty’ attitude.
Honey Mustard
The Honey Mustard sauce is a mixture of everything that is good, sweet honey, zesty mustard, and the correct amount of exotic spices, all blended together to provide you with the perfect sauce for dipping, basting and even dressing salads!
(Yes we know, salad isn’t everyone’s idea of a perfect barbecue side dish, but it really is delicious).
If you really want to go all ‘American’ it’s said to be the perfect basting sauce for Bison meat.
Dry Rub
Blues Hog's Dry Rub acts as a dry marinade by combining a unique blend of spices all of which help enhance the natural flavour of pork, poultry, and wild game.
If you are cooking up a storm with this rub anyway, it also works really well as a seasoning for vegetables.
It is said to have won many a barbecue teams their top prizes, it has certainly won our hearts, and a spot in the kitchen right next to the salt and pepper. It truly is a must-have for any well-stocked barbecue pantry.
